How Often Should You Really Clean These 7 Overlooked Areas?

Some of the grimiest spots in a home are the ones we barely notice: light switches, remote controls, bin lids, shower curtain liners, range hood filters, toothbrush holders, and the tops of door frames. They collect oils, dust, and bacteria quietly.

High-touch items like switches and remotes benefit from weekly wipe-downs with a safe disinfectant. Bin lids and toothbrush holders should be washed weekly. Shower liners may need monthly laundering or replacement, while hood filters often require monthly degreasing in busy kitchens.

If an area is touched daily but cleaned monthly — or never — it deserves a place on your rotation before it becomes the source of odours or buildup.

Door frames, vent grilles, and the tops of cabinets can be dusted monthly and detailed quarterly. Add overlooked zones to your calendar and they stop feeling like surprise chores during deep cleans.
